Tech Career Expo in Albany September 8

 

Albany, NY – The third annual Tech Career Expo kicks off Monday, Sept. 8, in a new location at the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road. The event, which is presented by the Center for Economic Growth, Monster.com and the Times Union, will feature dozens of hiring companies, including high-technology and advanced manufacturing employers.

 

The Tech Career Expo will be open from 2-7 p.m., with special programs on how technology impacts the Capital Region and how local job seekers can succeed in this changing business environment.  The Career Expo and all related events are free and open to the public. Participating employers include GlobalFoundries, Hixny, Ecovative Design, Tylers Versatrans Solution, Ceralink Inc. and many others.

 

A panel discussion on “The Capital Region’s Technology Landscape, 2014” will be led by Times Union Business Editor Eric Anderson with panelists representing the winning companies in the Center for Economic Growth’s 2014 Technology Innovation Awards. Panelists will be Colleen Costello, chief executive officer, Vital Vio, Inc.; Rutvik Mehta, president and materials scientist, ThermoAura, Inc.; Brian Corrigan, managing Partner, MadGlory; and Anthony Pfister, chief executive officer, ClassBook.com. The panel will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

 

The “Speed Career Development Roundtable” will be led by Janet Reynolds, executive editor of Capital Region Women@Work. Applying the concept of speed dating to career networking, participants will circulate among tables led by six experts, spending 10 minutes with each one over the course of one hour. The experts will be F. Michael Tucker, President and CEO of the Center for Economic Growth, on Getting in the Door for Customers, Clients and Interviews; Susan Storey Bardack, Founder and CEO of Buzz Media Solutions, on Managing Social Media and Your Career;  Robert Frederick, Career & Employment Services, Schenectady County Community College, on the Top 5 Skills You Need to Succeed in Today’s Workforce; Angelo DeMarco, Vice President of Sales, Tailwind Associates, on How to Make a First – and Lasting – Impression;  Charmaine Ushkow, Community Relations Manager, Times Union, on Strategies for Successful Networking; and Cherie Plante, owner, River Career Counseling, on Tactics for Interviews and Resumes.
