Albany Man Sentenced for Stealing from a Senior Citizen

District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that DANIEL DECENZO, 21, of Albany, was sentenced to 7 years in State Prison, in addition to 3 years Post-Release Supervision, before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin in Albany County Supreme Court this morning.

On July 8, 2014, DECENZO plead guilty to (1) Count of Robbery in the Second Degree, A Class C Felony.

On May 19, 2014, DECENZO forcibly stole property and did cause physical injury to an 89 year old woman in the area of New Scotland Avenue and Quail Street in the City of Albany, when he forcibly stole the victim’s purse and threw her to ground.  Bystanders were able to aid the woman and call for help.

“Our senior citizens, more so than anyone, have earned the right to come and go about the streets of Albany free from any harm. When a person crosses the line and attacks our most vulnerable and respected members of our community, the law enforcement community will work aggressively to hold those people accountable. Mr. Decenzo has 7 years to reflect on those words,” commented DA David Soares.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp handled the prosecution of this case.
