(Albany)—St. Catherine’s Center for Children raised more than $14,000 at its inaugural Running SCCCared Family 5K Run at The Crossings of Colonie on October 18. The event, which was presented by Radiant Pools, had 230 registered runners.
Ben Heller of Albany won the 5K with a time of 18:30. Wade Lacey, also of Albany, was the top female runner with a time of 21:22.
“This was St. Catherine’s first official road race,” said Executive Director William T. Gettman, Jr. “For a first time event, it was a tremendous success. Children and families had a great time, and we were able to raise money for an important cause.”
All proceeds from the race benefited the children and families of St. Catherine’s.
Running SCCCared was a Halloween-themed race for the entire family. The day kicked off with a children’s 1-mile fun run/walk, followed by the 5K. There was also face painting and temporary tattoos for the children, as well as refreshments provided by Bountiful Bread, Price Chopper, and Decrescente Distributing Co.
The race was organized by St. Catherine’s Leaders for Tomorrow, a group of young professionals who share St. Catherine’s vision of serving children and families in need.
“The Leaders for Tomorrow committee put in a lot of time and effort to put this race together,” Gettman noted. “We are grateful for all they have done, and look forward to building this event to an annual event for the whole family!”
