Downtown Albany Event Venue, The State Room, Celebrating New Location October 22

ALBANY, NY… The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District announces a ribbon cutting and networking event at The State Room’s new location at 100 State Street on October 22, 2014 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan, BID executive director Georgette Steffens and owner Tom Nicchi are expected to speak beginning at 5:45 PM. The media and public are invited to attend the celebration which will include music, a cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres. RSVPs requested via the event page.

“The State Room is proof that downtown Albany 
is continually gaining popularity as an ideal way to attract gatherings to the area,” said Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan. “Downtown event venues hold a unique and beautiful historical feel that is difficult to replicate anywhere else, and with them comes the opportunity to showcase our City and continually draw people back to see all that out Capital City has to offer.”

Formerly located at 142 State Street for 
13 years, the move meant renovations including the restoration of the interior marble and 120-year-old hand-painted ceiling, building a new kitchen and bathrooms, and making the building handicap accessible, all of which were completed in three months. Housed in a former bank, the site is the only wedding venue in the Capital Region to be listed in The Knot’s Hall of Fame, a designation given to wedding venues which have won four of more The Knot “Best of Wedding” awards.

“It’s no surprise to see people coming in from as far away as England to embrace our Downtown as a destination for events that represent such big moments in their lives,” says Georgette Steffens, executive director of the Downtown Albany BID. “With $180 million in investment and construction already happening in downtown Albany this year, the landscape continues to evolve and the results are impressive. We look forward to the ever-increasing foot traffic and coinciding boost that the urban wedding industry brings to both local businesses and the economy.”
According to Nicchi, The State Room’s location in downtown Albany lends to the private dining venue's ability to offer high-quality, upscale ceremonies at a fraction of the cost found in larger cities.

“Our company’s ‘Old School’ philosophy to approach each event different, taking the time to sit in on every meeting to plan specific details, ensuring that each event is unique to the individual,” explained Nicchi.

Nicchi references one bride whose dad had passed away before her wedding. Working with the woman, the Master Chefs at the venue recreated her father’s chocolate cake recipe for the reception.
“It’s more than a booking a couple’s wedding,” explains Nicchi. “We begin crafting our partnership with clients at the first meeting and are often chosen for their repeat business hosting the bridal shower, a baby’s first birthday party or their corporate event. We understand the value of a strong relationship.”

Those partnerships have helped The State Room confirm 150 weddings, galas, and private dining events in their books this year.

“Geographically, downtown Albany is positioned as a central focal point on the map, drawing people in from New York City, Boston and Montreal among other cities,explains owner Tom Nicchi. “Over the years, it has been interesting to observe that while many couples who hold events at The State Room live locally or have initial roots to the area, many do not. We’ve worked with couples who live in New York City, Texas, even as far away as Europe. Organizers continue to choose downtown Albany as their destination because of the ease of reaching the City for traveling guests and because of the historic backdrop the City provides each event.
