On December 20th in Freedom Square, the volunteers of Troy Bike Rescue will distribute second hand bicycles to children ages 12 and under in North Central and throughout. The many small bicycles have been donated by countless individual and organizational bike donors over the course of the year... maybe you!?
If you'd like to spread the word, here's the details:
Date: Saturday 12/20
Location: Freedom Square (at the intersection of 101st and 6th Ave.)
Time: 1:00-3:00pm
If you want to help out with the gift-away, meet at the Sanctuary for Independent Media at 3361 6th Ave. at 12 pm.
Note: There are no reservations this year. Bicycles will be selected and distributed in order of arrival.
Your also invited to the 3rd Annual North Central Neighborhood Celebration
The bicycle gift-away is part of the neighborhood’s 3rd Annual Holiday Celebration, which will take place from Noon to 5pm on December 20th at The Sanctuary for Independent Media. In addition to the bike gift-away, there will be family activities including food and baked goods, free family-portraits, ornament-making, a coat drive and more.
Donations to Unity House
In collaboration and Donor, Andy Fein, approximately 15 bicycles will also go to youth at Vanderheyden Hall. Several bikes were also gifted to children at the Hope 7 Community Center.
Ongoing Activities at Troy Bike Rescue
In addition to holiday activities, Troy Bike Rescue’s weelky Open Shop sessions, where members can repair and learn about bicyles, will remain open throughout the winter on Monday and Wednesday evenings 5-8pm. Femshop and YouthShop sessions are on hiatus for the winter months.
Troy Bike Rescue is an all-volunteer collective dedicated to recycling and promoting bicycles as a form of transportation.
Thank you to all our awesome supporters. There are so many ways that people have shown us love and support throughout the year.
