Cohoes Woman Involved in Fatal Route 787 Accident Identified by Police

COHOES >> More details are now available regarding the early morning fatal accident in Cohoes Wednesday which left a 53-year-old Cohoes woman dead.
Nyla Jordan of Waterside Way was identified as the woman involved in the car-pedestrian accident at Route 787 and Dyke Avenue. The name of the 24-year-old driver from Albany has not yet been released, said Cohoes Police Chief Bill Heslin.
“It’s still all under investigation,” said Heslin about the accident which happened around 5:43 a.m. Wednesday, more than an hour before sunrise.
Jordan, who seems to have worked for New York State, lived on Dyke Avenue and was seen walking to the bus stop on Saratoga Street regularly. She routinely crossed Route 787 to get there, said Heslin, based on talking with neighbors and witnesses.
The intersection where she was hit does have a crosswalk and button to cross, Heslin said.
The driver, he added, also frequently drove his 2012 Ford Focus along Route 787 North to get to work. He appears to have been on his way to work when the accident happened.
It is unclear how the accident transpired, though officials are hopeful about seeing some of the accident on video from nearby video cameras.
“Fatalities always have a lot of unanswered questions,” said Heslin. “We’re going to give this a lengthy, thorough process to be fair to both the victim and the driver.”
Heslin said it was too early to say whether charges might be issued.
“No death is a good death, especially when it happens abruptly with no rhyme or reason,” he added.
