On Sunday, Feb. 1 at 2pm - Clifford Oliver Mealy, a historic re-enactor, will portray Solomon Northrup in a living history presentation at the East Greenbush Library as part of Black History Month.
Solomon was a farmer, violinist, and free born African American who lived in the Saratoga area. He was lured off to Washington D.C. with the promise of a musician's job. Solomon was promptly kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841. The film "12 Years a Slave" was based on an autobiography written by Northrup after he regained his freedom in 1853. He later became a lecturer for the Abolitionist movement.
Please join us in remembering Black History month and bring the family.
