Code Blue Alert Extended Due to Severe Cold Temperatures around Albany

The Homeless and Travelers Aid Society (HATAS) has called a Code Blue homeless alert for the following nights: tonight (7th), Thursday(8th), Friday (9th), Sat (10th), Sun (11th), andMonday the 12th.  It is predicted to rise above 10 degrees on Tuesday the 13th with a projected return to Code Blue status on Thursday the 15th

Tonight (Wed) it is expected to be severe with the temperature as low as -20 with the wind chill factored.  Risk of death due to exposure is possible.  Alert HATAS and/or the Police to any person found without heated shelter.

Homeless persons can also go directly to either the Capital City Rescue Mission at 259 S. Pearl Street or the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless Drop-In Center at 26 South Swan Street.  The Homeless Action Committee will assist with transportation and outreach.  HATAS will assist with placement, referrals and information (463-2124 during business hours and 463-2124 x 4 after-hours)

A Code Blue is called when the temperature is expected to reach ten degrees or less (including the wind chill) or when 12 inches or more of snow is forecasted. The Code Blue logo is attached.

Many thanks,
