Job Openings in the City of Troy Police Department

TROY, NY – Mayor Lou Rosamilia and Police Chief John Tedesco have announced that the Troy Police Department is seeking lateral transfers to fill two current vacancies as well as anticipated future openings within in the agency. Hiring lateral transfers means that newly-hired officers will have prior police experience and have already attended the Police Academy.

“Not only does developing an eligible pool of lateral transfers ensure that Troy’s newest members of the police force will be experienced and ready for duty more quickly, but it protects taxpayers from shouldering the hefty burden of training and overtime costs associated with sending new officers to the Academy,” said Mayor Rosamilia.

“We expect to see as many as eight vacancies in the near future within the Troy PD, primarily due to the retirements of some of most senior members of our department,” said Police Chief Tedesco. “With such a high turnover, hiring lateral transfers makes the most sense from both a public safety and economic standpoint.”

To be considered for employment, interested candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services approved police officer status;
  • Must have been previously hired off of a New York State Civil Service List;
  • Must have more than three (3) years since graduation from Police Academy, or have training reimbursement waiver signed by current agency; and
  • Must be able to pass rigorous psychological, medical and background checks.

Applicants shall submit a resume and completed application no later than Friday, January 23, 2015 to Troy Police Department, Training & Human Resources, 55 State Street, Troy, NY 12180 or to TroyPD.Training@troyny.gov. Any additional questions may also be sent to this email address.

The application can be found on the City of Troy’s website at http://www.troyny.gov/Libraries/Docs/TPDapplication.sflb.ashx.
