Albany Man Attempted to Return a Stolen Car to its Owner for $20

District Attorney P. David Soares announced Thursday that DAVID MOORE, 55, of Albany, was sentenced to 1 ½ to 3 years in State Prison before the Honorable Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court this morning.

On July 10, 2014, MOORE pleaded guilty to (1) Count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a Class E Felony.

On June 3, 2014, a 2007 PT Cruiser that was parked on Central Avenue between Manning Blvd and Partridge Street in the City of Albany was stolen, with the victim’s cell phone inside of the car.
On June 4, 2014, at about 5:30pm, repeated calls were placed to the phone and MOORE answered, stating that he would return the car for $20.  The victim met the defendant at a pre-arranged location and the Albany Police were able to respond to the scene to find the car and keys to the stolen vehicle in MOORE’s possession.

Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Richter of the Vehicular Crimes Unit prosecuted this case.
