SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association Opens Residential Housing Complex

Cobleskill, N.Y. (September 16, 2014)—SUNY Cobleskill and the SUNY Cobleskill Alumni Association will celebrate the grand opening of the College’s brand-new, apartment-style housing complex, “Alumni Commons,” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 27th , 2014. Kyle Tuttle, a SUNY Cobleskill class of 84’ alum, oversaw the entire undertaking, which was constructed by LP Ciminelli, LCC. True to its name, Alumni Commons will stand as an architectural point of pride for SUNY Cobleskill, honoring the resilient connection between the campus community and its graduates.
Construction for Alumni Commons began May 1st, 2013, on the north side of the campus, in close proximity to the new Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources. The two-story suite and townhouse complex provides apartment-style living for upper-level baccalaureate students, a first for SUNY Cobleskill. With a capacity for 158 students, the spacious suites offer residents the option of three, four or six single bedrooms with a two-student bathroom and a full kitchen.
“This dynamic, modern-day residential living community offers our students exceptional private living accommodations where students can be comfortable, safe and build friendships which will last a lifetime,” said Steven M. Ackerknecht, Vice President of Student Affairs at SUNY Cobleskill. “The building of this housing complex has been an outstanding partnership between the College and the Alumni Association and I am confident it will greatly enhance the quality of student life here at SUNY Cobleskill.”
Attuned to the needs of SUNY Cobleskill’s ever-growing body of upper level students, this new housing complex will implement an innovative “live and learn” design plan, incorporating a detached pavilion for teaching and events.
