SUNY Cobleskill Gifted the Robert E. and Ethel M. Benninger Catering Scholarship

Cobleskill, NY - (September 15, 2014) – SUNY Cobleskill is pleased to announce the endowment of the Robert E. and Ethel M. Benninger Catering Scholarship, providing generous financial assistance to SUNY Cobleskill Culinary Arts students who meet the required provisions and demonstrate a significant acumen for catering. Richard Benninger, class of ’81 and current Assistant Professor of Culinary Arts at SUNY Cobleskill, alongside with his sister, Kate Slater, established the Robert E. and Ethel M. Benninger Catering Scholarship, honoring their parents.
The celebrated success of The Olde Tater Barn, located in Central Bridge, NY, is a reflection of the committed, hard-working and generous values Robert and Ethel Benninger exercised throughout their family owned and operated event venue. This motivated Rich Benninger and Kate Slater to seek students with a propensity for catering. “We are blessed with parents who instilled us with their values of family, community giving, and the importance of life-long education. Establishing the Robert E. and Ethel M. Benninger Catering Scholarship ensures our parents strong values and generosity will forever strengthen future generations,” said Rich Benninger and Kate Slater.
Returning Culinary Arts students enrolled within the SUNY Cobleskill program are eligible to receive the Robert E. and Ethel M. Benninger Catering Scholarship if they demonstrate an aptitude in catering, having earned a “B+” or higher in SUNY Cobleskill’s catering class. Additionally, a financial need must be exhibited and the inquiring student must hold a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students who reside in the Schoharie County area.
“The SUNY Cobleskill campus is thankful for the generosity of Rich Benninger and Kate Slater,” remarked Dr. Debra H. Thatcher, Acting President of SUNY Cobleskill. “Their support will greatly benefit our students, assisting them in excelling academically and personally throughout their transformative time here at SUNY Cobleskill.”
